Principle 33

"Many good ideas are really two ideas in one - which form a bridge between two realms of thought or different points of view" (Marvin Minsky).

Principle 32

"Some of the most crucial steps in mental growth are based not simply on acquiring new skills, but on acquiring new administrative ways to use what one already knows" (Papert's Principle).

Pr. Katz lecture on Human Side of Innovation (II):

Information Seeking Criteria:

1.   Familiarity and ease of use

2.   Geographical distance (as small as moving away to the next building according to Pr. Allen)

3.   Minimize “psychological cost”

It is only after the effects of the above criteria that people might seek a more “optimal” source(s) of information.

Principle 30

"A System is Less Receptive to Negative Information the Closer It Gets to the Deadline" (Pr. Katz lecture on Human Side of Innovation).

Pr. Katz lecture on Human Side of Innovation (Gunfire at Sea)

What are the sources of resistance?

You cannot replicate luck.

You cannot measure yourself on a standard, which you even do not have on your radar screen.

Do not vote until you have all the options.  Stay in the problem space first.

Who is going to need your product first?

It is important how do you frame the problem. It helps you to focus on the problem.

Who is the part of change and who is not? You may change, but the system stays the same.

The system may not change, but the environment around the system does.

Self selection is important (being assigned vs. choosing to work on a project).

Innovation requires a combination of critical roles and interrelationships.

The kiss of death "Who is available?"

The worst question in the management "Will it work?"

How do you measure risk taking in a group? A group is an amplifier but it can only amplify around the group’s consensus of norms and values.
